Ottawa

Last week this time, I was in Ottawa, Ontario. My first time to leave the U.S. – and I like Ottawa.

Let me share some pictures. Then you will like Ottawa too.

I’m not used to seeing French on stop signs in Texas.

For my bro.

Parliament. It’s beautiful. It looks like Europe.

This sign made us laugh.

Isn’t this beautiful?

I love the little houses!

Check out the blue.

Smile.

Well, that’s all for now. I have a spinach souffle coming up soon, so come back!

Water.

Water. In motion.

Love.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

For a Cold Day

Please note: it’s 6 degrees outside. The wind is blowing; the snow is falling.

That’s why I’m inside, sipping hot chocolate.

We thought a frigid day like this was a perfect day for peanut butter babies and hot chocolate. Don’t you think so, too?

Here’s the recipe for peanut butter babies. They’re a family favorite. Oh yes. And since today is a perfect peanut butter day in which I also have new macro lenses, I took a picture.

And don’t forget the hot chocolate!

Best Hot Chocolate

3 cups milk

1/4 cup cocoa

1/3 cup sugar

In a small saucepan, whisk cocoa and sugar until smooth. Add milk, a little at a time, and whisk well to combine. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring often, until it’s as hot as you like it. (I like mine boiling!) Pour into mugs and serve with joy. Yield: 2-3 servings

Enjoy your cold day!

Bubbles!

For some photography fun, fill a glass bowl with water, add some food coloring, dribble in some baby oil, and get to shooting!

What’s your weird thing to take pictures of? =)

Blessings,

The Banana

Sorry, folks. Another photography post. In my next post, however, I’m going to tell you about a pear coffee cake. But you’ll have to be patient until then.

My good intention was to add this to The Pioneer Woman’s food photography assignment, but that, like many of my good intentions, went down the drain. The photography assignment is over, the winner is announced, and I am left with banana pictures.

I was taught in a photography course that every good picture has a purpose. So I must have a purpose for my bananas. My original purpose was the photography assignment. That works. But what now? Should my purpose be to make you feel inspired to load up on extra potassium? Should this picture make you feel gleeful, lighthearted, and overall cheered? Should it be to protest all the bruises that bananas have these days?

I guess my purpose now is to share with you my photography endeavors. The beauty of a banana – from a different angle. The dark end – on a third. A graceful c-curve sweeping your eye along the banana and up to that dark end. That’s why I like it. And why I don’t like it? I don’t think I had enough depth of field. You want to see a little more banana than you do.

A question: how could I make these bananas a healthy, golden yellow without being garish?

But for now, they’ll just have to do. Coming up next – Pear-Pecan Coffee Cake!

Ever and always,

~Rachel~

The Red Bell Pepper

The Pioneer Woman is having a photography assignment: food. That fits me pretty well! I entered my picture of the German Chocolate Cookies, and today I entered this picture:

Comments? Critiques? I’d love to hear!

Have a wonderful day!

The Beauty of Winter

He sends out His snow like wool; He scatters His frost like ashes….

I hope you’re enjoying your winter as much as I am!

God bless!

I Love Fall, Part 2

God gave us such beautiful things to enjoy, and I think Fall flowers are especially beautiful.

Thanks to my brother who let me borrow his lens to take these!

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day.

I Love Fall!

God is so creative! He made so many different plants, and those plants don’t even always look the same!

I love how He made fall. The colors, the smells, just the feel of it! I also like to take pictures of it!

Enjoy fall!
